Investors have ramped up their allocations to real estate over recent years and are now aiming for around 11% (Figure 1). Typically they have looked to their domestic markets first and then, as allocations have risen, often sought to broaden their holdings and go global. This can help to diversify and manage risk, which is of particular importance during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
