The issue that has vexed the UK’s ruling Conservatives for decades has struck again, bringing down one prime minister and possibly another. A nation that hasn’t physically been part of the continent since the Ice Age coldly moved away politically as well in June 2016, in a Brexit vote that stunned the world.

Now that the Brexit timeline has been triggered, its potential to poison the political landscape reared its head again, when the Tories called a snap election and lost their parliamentary majority as a result. And as the UK economy starts to nosedive, the prospects for a country that once helped to save Europe may now be torn apart by it.
